Summary of dataset and variables

Annual data on low-carbon energy initiatives across Wales, by local authority.

Data collection or calculation

The data have been calculated, compiled and published by Regen on behalf of the Welsh Government.

Data are combined from existing administrative datasets, including Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) data and government scheme data, as well as connections data from Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) and information gathered through contact with installers and industry organisations.

Statistical quality

For a small number of low carbon energy projects it is not possible to identify the local authority. In the case, the projects are included under an 'unknown' category, but are included within the Wales total.

These data were also published in the Energy Generation and Use Report for Wales: First Combined Edition. The 2024 figures from that report were revised in August 2026 to reflect changes to the underlying data. These revisions did not affect this StatsWales dataset, which was created and published after the changes had been identified and implemented in the report.

Rounding applied

Data have been rounded to zero decimal places. As a result, the sum of local authority project numbers may not equal the Wales total.
