- Summary of dataset and variables
This data summarises the number of 2-year-olds offered and attending funded childcare in Wales, by local authority. This dataset will be updated termly.
The termly figures combine data on what was previously referred to as ‘Phase 2’ and ‘Phase 3’ of the Flying Start expansion programme. Figures for all 2-year-olds offered and accessing childcare will become available once data for the whole financial year has been collected.
- Data collection or calculation
These statistics are based on management information collected by Welsh government from local authorities to monitor the progress of funded childcare for 2-year-olds in each local authority.
These statistics are official statistics in development. We are working to refine and improve this data collection going forwards. They are currently the best estimate we have on the number of childcare places offered and attended for 2-year-olds in areas covered by the Flying Start expansion programme in Wales.
- Statistical quality
The length of a term is not uniform and so different terms should not be compared.
Termly data is considered provisional until data for the full financial year is available.
