Overview

Summary of dataset and variables

This dataset shows the number of certifications of vision impairment (CVI) by patient residence and service location health board in Wales, alongside a total for England. It highlights cross-border flows where patients live in one area but are certified in another. The data is broken down by patient health board and service health board for Wales, with England included as a single total.

The dataset provides insight into patterns of patient movement for certification services across Welsh health boards and between Wales and England over time.

Data collection or calculation

The data for all certification services provided in Wales are provided by NHS Shared Service Partnership (NWSSP), whereas for Welsh residents certified in England the data is provided by Moorfields Hospital.

Certifications of vision impairment are grouped by financial year, service location health board, and patient residence health board. Patient and service health boards in Wales are identified using standard codes, with England represented as a single category. Counts are calculated for each combination.

Statistical quality

Data for the latest year excludes Welsh residents certified in England. This is because this data is supplied by Moorfields Eye Hospital later in the year and therefore, the data for the latest year will be updated to include Welsh residents certified in England in the next publication.
